The 19th Annual Hearts for Hospice Fundraiser Gala was held this past Saturday, February 8th at the Senior’s Center in Quesnel. It was a wonderful evening, including a silent auction, basket raffles, a 50/50 draw, dessert auction, live auction and grand prize raffle which included: round trip flights to Vancouver, a pair of Canucks tickets (3rd row from the ice), hotel accommodations and a $500 VISA gift card!!! This amazing prize was won by Honey Affleck.
The Quesnel & District Hospice Palliative Care Association is a non-profit organization who seeks to ensure the best possible care for individuals, and their families who are facing life limiting illnesses, who need end of life care and grief and bereavement support.
As an association we raise funds each year to support palliative patients in our community. We purchase much needed equipment, such as specialized mattresses, wheelchairs, and cushions that provide clinical comfort in seating and positioning for long-term or complex care patients. Much of this equipment is to aid bed ridden patients, those with little or no mobility, improving their end of life care.
We also train volunteers to provide emotional and practical support by comforting individuals and their loved ones. Our volunteers sit with patients in Hospice, at GR Baker Hospital, at Dunrovin, and in the community should they choose to remain at home. The volunteers provide companionship, respite care and vigil support at end of life. As an association we advocate for quality palliative care in our community.
